DOI: 10.7463/0613.0574620
V.M. Utenkov, P.A. Bykov
This article presents prerequisites for carrying out experiments in order to test machine tools for implementing high-speed processing. The authors propose a method for determining frequency vibration-free tool rotation at high speed milling. Results of experiments of measuring cutting forces with the use of the Kistler dynamometer are presented in this article. They are: turning of aluminum alloy at cutting speeds from 100 to 1000 m/min at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich; milling of aluminum alloys at cutting speeds from 471 to 942 m/min at Bauman MSTU, Laboratory of Department MT-1 “Machine Tools”; milling of aluminum alloys and steels (cutting speed up to 452 m/min) at Dubna Machine Building Plant.

# 06, June 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0613.0579350
O.V. Malkov
This article presents a description of existent methods of correlation adjustment of tooth contour of thread milling cutters with straight flute. The author developed a method for profiling teeth of a thread milling cutting’s tapping unit with helical flutes and a face surface in the front section in the form of a line with a face angle which is not equal to 0°. Calculation showed that in a general case the thread milling cutter’s tooth contour for processing a metric thread is an unsymmetrical one with a deviation from 30 degrees which depends on the diameter of a tapping unit, a pitch of thread, an angle of slope of helical flutes and both end and front angles.

# 04, April 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0413.0569077
A.A. Ochkov, A.V. Isaev, S.N. Prudnikov
In this article the authors consider methods of determination of total absorbing ability of high-vacuum cylindrical cryoadsorption pumps: average temperature calculation and integrated calculation. These two methods were compared with each other. The authors also considered an algorithm of calculation of a relative error of the method of determination of total absorbing ability by using an average temperature. Influence of various parameters, such as temperature on the periphery of the adsorptive layer, the radius of a cryogenic vessel, etc., on the mistake value was revealed. Results of calculation were presented in graphic and analytical interpretations. On the basis of the conducted researches several conclusions were drawn.
Mathematical model of production management based on resource-saving principles
# 05, May 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0513.0568317
A.E. Brom, E.V. Eliseeva
Problems of engineering production were studied in this article; it is also shown that the main problem is high resource consumption of products. When solving this problem, it is not enough to rely on existing traditional methods of production management that are used at enterprises. The authors propose a new logistic approach and a mathematical model of production management based on minimization of resource consumption, both from the economic point of view (minimization of the production cost) and the ecological point of view (minimization of manufacturing impact on the environment).

# 05, May 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0513.0567501
N.A. Yaroslavceva
This article presents an algorithm and a general structural logical model of a technological decision making process on reasonability of reconstruction along with a detailed structural logical model of providing quality of a product being reconstructed. Distinctive features of initial data of a reconstructed product from the data of a product made from scratch are listed. It is emphasized that the main distinctions are: knowledge of remaining life expectancy, data on the input control of the reconstructed product’s condition, heritable parameters and properties, history of loading and damaging and manufacturability of the damaged component. It is shown that formation of consumer properties of a reconstructed product is provided by a complex summing action of transformed external energies of each technological method and processing techniques which are component parts of the reconstruction process.
Analysis of product design with discrete-slot surface structure and their production technology
# 05, May 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0513.0566912
D.V. Ivanov
This article presents a classification of typical circular-shaped details with a iscrete-slot surface structure according to permeability and their geometry of forming. Design variants of these parts are described along with manufacturing methods and application areas. The majority of filtering elements with a discrete-slot surface structure are assembly units which include several interconnected parts. Manufacturing technologies of such filtering elements have a set of restrictions both for productivity and for the guaranteed filtering degree. Bi-rotor technologies of multiblade processing of discrete-slot surface structure that allow to obtain filtering elements as a mono-part with the value of filtering degree equaling 10 micrometers are the most promising in the filtering degree context and efficiency of a production cycle. These technologies allow to obtain the structure which has elastic properties and makes it easier to create adjustable filters with minimal slots width in the compressed condition at the working mode and opening of the filtering element at the regeneration mode.

# 05, May 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0513.0552162
A.S. Kurkin, S.A. Korolev, P.A. Ponomarev
The authors consider necessity of heat treatment after welding circular butts of thick-walled gas pipelines. They analyzed two main welding technologies of fixed butts in gas pipelines – hand arc welding by an electrode with the basic type of coating, and combined welding. The weld root is produced by machine welding with a solid section wire using the STT method; filling and facing layers of the weld are produced by auto-welding with a flux-cored wire in the mixture of shielding gases using M300-C welding heads. Results of the thermal and stress analysis allow to justify elimination of post-weld heat treatment of circular butts.
Estimation of contact quality of a cone joint via electric parameters
# 04, April 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0413.0548368
K.G. Potapov
This article describes an estimation technique of the contact area in the “spindle-tool” cone joint used at NC machine tools. This method was developed as an alternative for quality control of the contact area in the cone joint and may be interesting for machine-tool builders during the stage of manufacturing the spindle’s cone sleeve. The proposed method contains calculations of transient electrical resistivity and coupling capacitance. The relations obtained during the investigation allowed to establish a connection between the contact area and specified electric parameters. The results can be useful for postgraduates and researchers.

The author emphasizes importance of the discussed problem for choosing metal-cutting machine and analyzes general conditions of selecting metal-cutting equipment. It is shown that the process of selecting metal-cutting equipment refers to the multi-criterion optimization problem in the area of decision-making process. Theoretical prerequisites for formalizing main stages of selecting technological equipment are determined. Methods of alternative comparative analysis, which can be used to solve the specified problem, are analyzed. The author proposes a general algorithm for choosing the preferred model of metal-cutting equipment that meets the predetermined production condition and limitations.
New concept of metal cutting waste
# 02, February 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0213.0541318
V.M. Yaroslavtsev
It was shown that cutting waste is a product of unique complex mixed-mode energy deposition combined in the place (the area of chip formation) and time; this deposition can be considered as special unstudied up until today transformation method of condensed medium properties. Dynamic destruction with explosion parameters combined with other physical and chemical features of the cutting process allows to assert that this processing technology of ingoing material of a work-piece may lead to creating brand new materials with a non-traditional complex of mechanical and physical properties which have their own application domains. Studying formation conditions of properties of cutting waste material would allow to find new approaches to regulation of product quality parameters during the cutting process.
Investigation of stability of the combined process of drawing and oncoming flanging at stamping rings with double walls
# 03, March 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0313.0541172
M.M. Petrushina, S.A. Evsyukov
The authors investigate the influence of correlation coefficients of drawing and flanging on stability of the combined process of obtaining profile rings with double walls. Finite element method is used. To assess the stability, wall height is recorded. It was determined that when drawing and flanging coefficients change there is a critical ratio of the coefficients at which the process loses stability. Relative thickness of a work piece has a determining influence on stability. Application range of this combined process expands with the increase in relative thickness, with the decrease in the punch radius of curvature and with the use of stainless steel.
Light emission and electrical process in the cavitating flow of mineral oil
# 03, March 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0313.0535547
V.N. Pil'gunov, K.D. Efremova
During the research of cavitation processes in the mineral oil flow inside a transparent model of an orifice restrictor steady light emission in the blue range of the visible colour spectrum was revealed. Intensity of light emission grew as the flow velocity increased. Upon reaching the threshold value of the flow velocity, light emission became pulsatile; and when velocity continued to grow, emission stopped. Experiments revealed the presence of mineral oil of intensive electrical processes in the cavitating flow. The created experimental setup allowed to make a quantitative assessment of electric processes and to record the dynamics of light emission. Hypothesis that explains the physics of discovered effects was proposed along with assumptions about possible influence on the working liquid for hydraulic drives and wall materials of narrow channels of hydro automatic equipment elements and devices.

During surgical operations with the use of a robot–manipulator, control actions are managed by force effects in the area of the surgical operation. The constructional design of the robot is chosen according to the technological requirements for implementation of specific movements. It turns out that when a force is applied to the tool, displacement of the force application point can be non-collinear to the force vector. If interaction between a surgical instrument and the operation object can be reduced to a concentrated force, it is necessary to choose a beneficial robot configuration to avoid lateral offset. In this configuration the force vector must be aimed to the proper direction of the robot compliance matrix in the force application point. The proposed calculation method helps to construct a working configuration of the robot with respect to minimization of possible spurious derivation of the instrument from the requested trajectory.
Analytical solution of the Hertzian contact problem of elastic deformations of a thin plate positioned in a cylindrical cavity
# 01, January 2013
DOI: 10.7463/0113.0517977
S.N. Dmitriev
The author proposes an analytical solution of the contact problem of elastic deformations of a thin plate rolled up into a cylinder and placed into a cylindrical cage of the same radius. In this case, the plate is only partially adjacent to the surface of the cylinder, on the other part there is delamination. For linearization of basic correlations it is assumed that the plate deviates from the surface of the cylindrical cavity to a very little degree; therefore, it is possible to use the equilibrium equation, as well as physical and geometric equations of cylindrical shell. It is considered that the shell bending is cylindrical. The rolling of the plate is taken into account as a pre-stressed state. It is supposed that it is a state of pure bending in plane. As a result of solution, the angle of delamination, displacement and internal power factors are determined.
Problems of development of stereotaxic guidance systems designed to control surgical instruments, illustrated by brain biopsy
# 12, December 2012
DOI: 10.7463/0113.0486770
Yu.V. Bogdanova, A.M. Guskov, I.V. Jidkih, O.S. Naraikin, V.A. Shurhai
A description of carrying out brain biopsy was examined. It is emphasized that one of the major problems is to position the instrument precisely and to maintain a safe trajectory while carrying out the operation. A disadvantage of traditional stereotaxic systems, apart from constructive disadvantages (long preparation and repeated operations have to be carried out in case of multi-target procedures), is that it doesn’t have the ability to observe the effectiveness of surgical manipulation in the target object in real time and, therefore, to reveal ongoing intracranial complications. Modern technologies which use robotic-manipulators allow to increase accuracy, speed and safety in high-precision operations simultaneously. The need for accuracy in positioning the instruments and automated support system are discussed in detail.
Treatment of deep channel by self-supporting technological units ("KROT"-type)
# 11, November 2012
DOI: 10.7463/1112.0483374
N.K. Litvin, A.G. Tuktanov
Problems of design and construction of technological "KROT"-type units are considered in this article. These units allow one to eliminate some drawbacks of classical equipment used to treat deep channels. Their basic principle is basing a deep channel on the surface treated by this unit and moving it across the surface as across the guide ways of the machine. The advantage is that maintenance of any product with deep channels can be made under shop-floor conditions, in areas of installation and operation. The product, in this case, can be positioned horizontally, vertically or obliquely.
Classification and identification of inspection sheets used for monitoring NC turning operation.
# 11, November 2012
DOI: 10.7463/1112.0483229
I.S. Kartavcev, N.I. Pas'ko
A classification of inspection sheets for NC machine tools is proposed. It considers several parameters of online monitoring and machine tool adjustment, such as the adjustment type, the possibility of monitoring tool wear by the NC controller, the availability of the dimensional correction in the adjustment cycle, and so forth. Besides, some models of the in-process monitoring of tool wear were considered with different approaches to the process. They represent the dynamics of the process being monitored in the best way. Usage of proposed classification allows one to display parameters affecting the process of numerical machine control onto inspection sheets explicitly. It leads to a simplification of an algorithm of determining its main parameters, which means it allows one to reduce expenses on running control and, in the end, decrease production cost
